Lead Service Line Replacement Phase 1
Overview
The City of Hastings is beginning its 2026 Lead Service Line Replacement to improve drinking water quality and protect public health.
If you received a letter about this program, your property has been identified for replacement in Phase 1 of our City’s lead service line replacement project as your service line was identified as lead or galvanized requiring replacement.
Action Steps
To move forward with your service line replacement, please complete the following steps:
Step 1: Locate your home in the map
This can be done by either typing your address into the search bar or scrolling to the location of your home and clicking on it. Once you click on it a pop up will appear with data relating to your home.
Step 2: Complete the Lead Service Line Replacement Agreement
The pop out will have information from our inventory on your home status and service line material type. You will then get a link by number 1 to complete your Lead Service Line Agreement form. Click on the link to fill out the form. If you would prefer to sign the form, a hard copy one can be provided during your in-home inspection. This form is required before your project can be scheduled.
Step 3: Schedule your pre-replacement inspection
Next to number two you will see a link to book an appointment with our inspector. Inspections can also be booked over the phone if you prefer.
Step 4: Schedule your replacement
Around the end of June and start of July we will start reaching out to residents to help schedule the day that their replacement will take place.
Project Background
Over the past two years, the City’s worked closely with residents to identify the materials used in water service lines, the pipes that bring drinking water into homes and buildings. This information has helped us to secure funding for this first phase of the replacement project. Thank you for your participation in this important effort!
Why is the city replacing lead service lines?
Lead and galvanized service lines can contribute to elevated lead levels in drinking water. Replacing these lines is one of the most effective ways to reduce potential exposure and protect public health—especially for young children and other vulnerable populations.
This work is part of a broader statewide effort led by the Minnesota Department of Health to remove lead from drinking water systems.
The City of Hastings completed a comprehensive service line inventory in 2024–2025 to better understand where lead and galvanized pipes still exist. With that information, the City is now moving forward with replacements in a planned and prioritized manner.
There is no cost to you. This work is fully funded through state programs.
