PFAS and Drinking Water
What are PFAS?
PFAS are manmade chemicals that have been used since the 1940s. They can be found in items like non-stick cookware, microwave popcorn bags, fast-food packaging, cosmetics, and many other everyday products. PFAS are often called “forever chemicals” because they stay in the environment for a very long time and do not break down easily.
Some PFAS have been found in Hastings' wells and drinking water. The City wants residents to understand what this means for them and their families. The City is working to keep drinking water safe and is taking steps to reduce PFAS levels.
