Massage Therapy Licenses

Massage therapy services in the City of Hastings are regulated to protect public health, safety and welfare. Individuals and businesses offering massage therapy must obtain a Massage Therapist License and a Massage Therapy Establishment License from the City and comply with applicable local and State regulations.

Who Needs a License?

The following must be licensed by the City of Hastings:

• Individuals providing massage therapy services within City limits.

• Businesses operating a massage therapy establishment.

• Independent contractors or employees performing massage in licensed establishments.

Licensing applies to both fixed-location businesses and mobile/in-home services conducted within the City.

Licensing Requirements

To obtain a massage therapist license, applicants must:

1. Complete the Massage Therapist License Application

2. Submit the following documentation:

   • Proof of certification from an accredited massage therapy program (minimum 500 hours)

   • Copy of a valid government-issued photo ID

   • Proof of general liability insurance

3. Pay the required licensing fee(s)

   1. If you are a new applicant, an investigation fee is required.
   2. License fees may be prorated. 

4. Successfully complete a background check conducted by the Hastings Police Department

To obtain a massage therapy establishment license, applicants must:

1. Complete the Massage Therapy Establishment License Application

2. Submit the following documentation:

   • Business owners must also submit list of all employees or contractors offering massage therapy services.

   • Copy of a valid government-issued photo ID

   • Proof of general liability insurance

3. Pay the required licensing fee(s)

   1. If you are a new applicant, an investigation fee is required.
   2. License fees may be prorated.

4. Successfully complete a background check conducted by the Hastings Police Department

License Duration & Renewal

Massage Therapist Licenses are valid for one calendar year and must be renewed annually. 

Massage Therapy Establishment Licenses are valid for three (3) calendar years. 

Regulations & Compliance

Massage license holders must adhere to:

• City of Hastings Ordinances

• Zoning and Building Code requirements for business locations

• State and Federal laws regarding health, safety and privacy

The City reserves the right to inspect licensed establishments and investigate complaints. Violations may result in suspension or revocation of the license.
