Utilities Committee
The Utilities Committee of the Hastings City Council provides oversight and policy guidance on essential utility services that impact residents and businesses throughout the City. This includes the City’s hydroelectric plant, solid waste and recycling, telecommunications and franchise operations.
The City Administrator and Public Works Director report to the Committee, providing updates on operations, infrastructure planning, regulatory matters and utility-related budgeting.
Committee Responsibilities
- Oversight of the hydroelectric plant and related energy operations
- Guidance on City utility franchise agreements (e.g., electric, gas, cable)
- Review of solid waste and recycling programs
- Evaluation of telecommunications infrastructure and services
- Input on utility budgeting, policy updates and service improvements

Meeting Schedule
The Utilities Committee meets as needed, depending on operational updates, regulatory changes, or infrastructure planning. Meetings are open to the public but not televised.
