Heritage Preservation Commission

The Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) plays a central role in identifying, protecting and promoting the historical character that defines Hastings. The City of Hastings takes great pride in its rich history. In recognition of this, the City is deeply committed to preserving its historical, architectural, archaeological, engineering and cultural heritage.


Purpose & Responsibilities

The Heritage Preservation Commission:

  • Identifies and researches historically significant properties and locations throughout the City
  • Works with property owners to preserve and protect the integrity of historic structures
  • Recommends the designation of Heritage Preservation sites
  • Reviews proposed alterations or renovations to designated sites before permits are issued
  • Offers guidance and support during the planning phase of projects to help preserve the community’s historic character

These efforts help retain the unique look, feel and legacy of Hastings while supporting revitalization in a thoughtful and respectful manner.


Commission Membership

The HPC consists of nine (9) appointed members. While all qualified Hastings residents are welcome to apply, preference is given to individuals with a background or strong interest in:

  • Architecture
  • History
  • Archaeology
  • City Planning
  • Design
  • Real Estate
  • Building Trades
  • Landscape Architecture

Meeting Information

The Heritage Preservation Commission meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
