Mission
Hastings strives to be a creative arts and culture community where everyone can participate, learn and grow.
Formed in 2023, the City of Hastings Arts & Culture Commission works to promote and support arts and cultural opportunities throughout the community. The Commission plays a key advisory role in shaping Hastings as a City where arts, culture and creativity are recognized as essential to a thriving quality of life.
Purpose & Responsibilities
The Arts & Culture Commission supports a community where:
- Arts and cultural activities are recognized as vital components of community life, worthy of investment and support from public, private and nonprofit sectors.
- Arts and culture are valued for their economic development potential and community-wide impact.
- The identities and stories of historic, existing and emerging cultural groups in Hastings are celebrated and preserved.
- Youth-focused arts education and programs are encouraged and supported.
- The talents and involvement of retirees and senior citizens are engaged in meaningful ways.
- Arts and culture contribute to beautification and placemaking, creating a strong sense of community pride.
- Hastings’ creative identity enhances local quality of life and attracts regional and broader recognition.
Commission Membership
- The Arts & Culture Commission consists of seven (7) appointed members
- Members serve varied terms to ensure continuity and fresh perspectives
- All members are residents of Hastings with an interest in creative arts and culture
Meeting Information
The Arts & Culture Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.

Grant Opportunities
Arts and Culture Grant Program
The purpose of the Arts and Culture Grant Program is to create a more robust artistic and cultural community within the City, the Arts and Culture Grant Program (ACGP) enables local arts and cultural groups to host more events or complete more projects.
This grant program is a matching grant which requires the applicant to provide $1.00 of additional funding for every $1.00 of grant funding. The maximum of any singular grant award from this program will be $1,000.
Eligibility for the Arts and Culture Grant Program shall be limited to non-profit organizations with a mission of promoting and supporting the arts and culture.
