Storm Water Management
Helping Keep Our Water Clean
We follow rules from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to make sure our storm water doesn’t pollute rivers, lakes or streams.
What We Do
We help protect our water by reviewing all construction projects in the city. Before anything is built, we check how the project will affect storm water runoff — that’s the water that flows off surfaces like parking lots and streets.
We also manage two important programs:
- NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System)
- MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System)
These programs help make sure storm water stays clean and doesn’t cause pollution in the environment.
