Sewer Repair Grant Program
Help for Homeowners
Sewer Repair Grant
In 2025, you can get help paying to fix your private sewer line if it’s identified to be experiencing inflow and infiltration (I&I). This is part of a grant program from Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES).
What Is I&I? Inflow and Infiltration
I&I means water that doesn’t belong in the sewer system—like rain or groundwater—gets in through cracks or old pipes. This often happens when tree roots break into sewer lines or pipes start to leak.

In Hastings, the property owner is responsible for the sewer pipe that goes from your home to the city’s main sewer line in the street. If your pipe has problems, you might qualify for a grant to help fix it.
How Much Help Can I Get?
If you qualify, the grant will cover:
- 50% of the cost for eligible repairs of your sewer line
- Up to $5,000 maximum
Grants are first-come, first-served and the city still has limited funds to distribute.
How Do I Apply?
Step 1: Let the City Know You Want to Apply (REQUIRED)
This step saves a spot in line.
- Call: 651-480-2334
Step 2: Prove Your Pipe Has a Problem
You need a video inspection of your sewer line that shows damage or tree roots getting in.
You can do this in one of three ways:
- Send in a video you already have (from the last five years)
- Hire a private sewer company to take a video
- Ask the City of Hastings if they have availability to video your line (limited)
- Call the Engineering Department: 651-480-2334
Step 3: Fill Out and Send the Application
- Download and fill out the Sewer repair grant application Form
- Send it to Hastings Public Works one of two ways:
Drop off or Mail:
1225 Progress Drive
Hastings, MN 55033
