Residential General Building

General Building permits should only be utilized for types of work that do not fall under our other permit types. Please utilize the specific permit types when applicable.  

A few examples of work that may use a General Building Permit Application would be a retaining wall, fence over 7 feet tall, pergola, etc.

Note: If home is a Heritage Preservation Site (historic property), prior approval from the City Planner and/or HPC is required before issuance of permit for any exterior construction.

Submittals

• General Building Permit Application
• Site Survey/Site Plan (if applicable) - scaled drawing accurately showing the location of the proposed construction with distances from property lines, easements and other structures. 
• Construction Plans
• Owner-Contractor Waiver - if homeowner is completing the work themselves.

Required Inspections

Unique projects require a unique list of inspections. Your approved permit will include a detailed list of required inspections. Work may not be covered prior to approved inspection.
