Historic Property Changes
Application
Properties identified on the map of designated historic properties are important local heritage preservation sites and the Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) must approve Applications for Certificate of Approval for exterior changes to the property. This is required by City Ordinance 30.10. The application must be submitted by the second Tuesday of each month for a formal review by the HPC. The application must include a description of work, site photos, plans, drawings, and pictures of new items, depending on the proposed changes.
Please discuss proposals with staff early in the planning process.
Design Guidelines
Review of proposed changes are based on the adopted Hastings Design Guidelines below. These guidelines outline the proper maintenance, historically appropriate exterior alterations, and new construction for designated properties. Approval is not required for painting. However, the Design Guidelines recommend choosing paint colors from historic color palettes.
