Animals and Pets

Animals and pets are an important part of our community. To keep our community safe and enjoyable for all, we have city rules and processes for pet owners and community members who find lost pets or encounter dangerous dogs, for example.

The city also owns and operates Rivertown Dog Park. Bring your four-legged pets for fun and play.

Some rules to know

  • No household shall keep or harbor more than four cats and three dogs in excess of the age of three months on any parcel within the City of Hastings.
  • Pets are not allowed to run loose. They must remain leashed in public.
  • All pet waste must be cleaned up by the pet owner, both on the owner’s property and in all public areas. Owners must carry equipment to remove pet waste/feces and dispose of them in a proper receptable.
  • Any dog found in the city without a license or running at large will be taken to an animal pound.
  • All dogs must be licensed through the city.
