Crime Statistics
As of January 1, 2021, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI's) National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) became the national standard for law enforcement crime data reporting in the United States.
NIBRS data collection involves local law enforcement agencies reporting the following detailed crime incident information to the state-level, which then validate the data and submit the data to the FBI:
-
- Criminal offenses
- Location, date, and time of the incident
- Demographic information about victims, offenders, and arrestees
- The relationship between victims and offenders
- Types of weapons used
- Property loss and damage
- Whether the incident was cleared by arrest
