Police Records Requests

Request a copy of a police report and other police records

Types of Police Records

Members of the public, media, law enforcement, and government agencies can request many kinds of information from the police department:

  • Police report
  • Crash or accident Report
  • Local records check (by name or Hastings address)
  • Other kinds of records including body camera video, photographs, 911 audio and transcripts, etc.

Some police records older than seven (7) years may have been disposed of and no longer available due to data retention guidelines.

What You'll Need

If you are the subject of the data (the person the records are about), you will need to submit official identification along with your request. You can do this online by uploading a picture of your driver’s license or state ID with your request.

If the data you are requesting contains private data about another person, such as Body Worn Camera Video data, you will need to provide the other person's written permission using the Hastings Police Department Informed Consent - Release of Law Enforcement Data form to receive their data.

Fees

The City of Hastings may charge a fee for providing you with the data you have requested.  These charges are authorized under Minnesota Statutes, section 13.03, subdivision 3(c). If any charges apply to your request, we will notify you of the cost and ask that you pay the fees before we give you the data.

Charges are set in Hastings City Code, Chapter 34, Fees
