Police Department Personnel Feedback Form

The Administrative division of the Hastings Police Department is composed of four positions: 

    • Chief of Police
    • Deputy Chief
    • Commander
    • Police Administrative Services Manager

Chief of Police

The Chief of Police is responsible for developing, directing, and providing ongoing leadership and supervision to the Police Department. This position is responsible for directing police operations to protect the safety of the community through crime prevention and control, control of peace, traffic regulation, and provision of emergency services. This position is also responsible for strategically managing departmental operations to ensure the highest level of responsiveness, accountability, and respect for the department personnel.

Deputy Chief

The Deputy Chief is second in command and assists the Chief of Police in the direction and control of the police department, overseeing several divisions within the department including Investigations, Community Engagement, Fleet, and Training/Quality Control.  

Commander

The Commander directs the work of the Patrol Division and serves as a member of the department management team. 

Police Administrative Services Manager

This Police Administrative Services Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, security, and control of all police records and administration procedures; periodically evaluates and make recommendations to the Chief of Police. 

Investigations

Three officers are currently assigned to the Investigations Division. The primary function of the Investigations Division is to conduct follow-up investigations of crimes after the initial report is taken by a patrol officer.  Investigators receive specialized training to assist in conducting investigations of a wide array of crimes including: assaults, sex crimes, deaths/homicides, child abuse, crimes against the elderly, missing persons, computer crimes, burglary and robbery.

The Patrol Division is made up of Officers and Sergeants, including School Resource Officers, a K-9 Officer and his Sonny, a Community Engagement Officer and a Community Service Officer.

Officers patrol approximately 18 square miles of the City of Hastings and are responsible for a wide variety of duties including enforcement of traffic laws, conducting initial investigations and responding to complaints/crimes such as burglaries, suspicious activities, alarms and domestic disputes. 

Additionally, Officers perform several non-emergency duties such as patrolling parks and neighborhoods, conducting business checks and performing crime prevention education.

The Records Division is staffed by administrative personnel and is responsible for processing, maintaining and disseminating police records in compliance with City policies and State law.

Persons requesting Police reports and statistical information may do so by submitting an online data request.

Costs to provide data can be found in the City of Hastings Fee Schedule.

Originally formed in 1953 as a Civil Defense unit, the Hastings Police Reserve unit is comprised of approximately individuals willing to volunteer their time and service to the citizens of Hastings by assisting the Police Department at numerous community events and programs.
