Chief Schafer

Chief Bryan D. Schafer is a 30-year veteran of law enforcement. He was appointed as the Police Chief for the City of Hastings on November 4, 2013 after serving 22 ½ years with the Minneapolis Police Department. During his tenure with Minneapolis, Schafer served as the Commander of both the 1st and 2nd Police Precincts.

Schafer is dedicated to building community partnerships in order to improve livability and reduce crime. 

Deputy Chief David Wilske is a 20-year police veteran, coming to the Hastings Police Department from the University of MN Police Department where he served as Patrol Lieutenant.  He advanced through the ranks of the University of MN Police Department, serving as Patrol Officer, Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, and Investigative, Administrative, and Operations Lieutenant.  One of his most notable accomplishments was orchestrating the opening of TCF Stadium and has been awarded the “Citation of Excellence” from UMPD for his talents and leadership.

Commander Bryan Schowalter  is an 11-year member of the Hastings Police Department and has served as Patrol Officer, Drug Task Force Investigator, Drug Task Force Sergeant/Team Leader and most recently, Patrol Sergeant.  

Mary Cofer began her career with the Hastings Police Department in 1998 as a Receptionist/Dispatcher. In 1999 she transferred to a Police Secretary position within the Department, and in 2003 was promoted to her current position of Office Manager.
