City Administrator Update

Melanie Mesko Lee’s last day with the City of Hastings was January 4, 2019. All our best as she takes over as the City Manager for the City of Burnsville. We appreciate her 19+ years of service and contributions to the City and community. Congratulations Melanie!

The City Council is continuing discussions on the process by which they will fill the City Administrator vacancy. A Request for Proposals to select an Executive Search Firm will be on the January 22nd Council agenda. Upon approval it will be released on January 23rd with proposals due on February 13th.

If you are interested in learning more about the process for filling the position, we have created a page on our website with all the updates on the process as they work through the Administrative Committee of the Council (Braucks*, Folch, Lund) and the Council as a body.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in Hastings


Please mark your calendar for the next Equity Lab: Tuesday, January 15 at 6 p.m. at Dakota Pines Banquet Center, 2015 Westview Drive

Three more sessions will take place now through February. Please join us for as many as you can. There will be a $10 buffet dinner option through Dakota Pines from 5-6 p.m., and FREE Childcare for kids ages 6 weeks to 10 years provided by Hastings Area YMCA (MN) KidStuff program. Please join us as we learn to see the world through an inclusive lens.

Personnel


Congratulations to Officer David Bauer. David was recently promoted to Police Sergeant. David has worked for the City of Hastings since 2008 and has served as the School Resource Officer, firearms instructor, Field Training Officer, sniper team leader on the MAAG team, and ALICE instructor. Congratulations David!


Applications are being accepted until Sunday, January 13th for the Deputy City Clerk position. To date we have over 60 applicants! Interviews will be held the week of January 21st.

Applications are also being accepted until Sunday, January 13th for the Economic Development Coordinator position. Interviews will be held the week of January 28th.

It’s never too early to think about summer! The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a motivated individual for the 2019 internship position. The internship focuses on outdoor community events and provides comprehensive experience to learn about the Parks and Recreation field. The Hastings Police Reserve Unit is looking for additional members. These volunteers serve our community in a uniformed capacity. The Reserve unit has been in existence for more than 40 years and plays a key role in patrolling Hastings during community and high school events. Apply online at www.hastingsmn.gov/employment.

Construction Updates


Great River Landing - Hudson Building
Building plans for the Great Rivers Landing Project are under review for building code compliance before a permit to start the project will be issued. The anticipated start time of the project is early spring with Stotko Speedling as the general contractor.

Construction of Dunkin’ Donuts at 1207 Vermillion Street is progressing with an anticipated opening date sometime in February.

The Pleasant Hill Library addition and remodel project is moving along as projected. Completion date for the project is anticipated sometime around August. Current library operations are located at Westview Mall.

Parks and Recreation

Recycle your old holiday lights now through February 1st. Drop off locations at Hastings City Hall, the Joint Maintenance Facility (920 10th Street,) and Terry’s Hardware.

Arena:


• The winter session of skating lessons begin Saturday morning and runs for ten weeks there is still time to register.
• The hockey season is still going strong, we hosted a youth tournament last weekend with sixteen Bantam teams participating. It made for a busy weekend as we also had a boys high school game on Saturday.
• We will have home high school games over the next two weeks and our next tournament will be February 1, 2 and 3 which will be and Bantam and Peewee tourney.

Sports & Recreation:


• Warming houses at Pioneer, Lions, and Wallin parks are now open! The warming house at Levee Park remains closed.

• Crews have been busy flooding. On average 4 to 5 thousand gallons of water a day get dumped on the surface of each rink.

• The aeration system at Lake Rebecca is still up in running. Users are advice to use caution when walking on the ice as there may be thin spots. The area or water that is open is circled by thin ice signs to let patrons know that they are entering the area.
