Hastings Teens Help Save a Life
Post Date:01/12/2018 3:37 PM
Press Release Issued 1/12/2018:This morning at approximately 8:25, two Hastings High School students, Sydney Radke and Addie Buck discovered an unresponsive person in the 1300 block of West 15th St. When police officers Tollefson and Nowlan arrived, CPR was already being administered to the patient by Sydney and Addie.
Officer’s Tollefson and Nowlan applied their AED and administered one cardiac shock to the patient just as the ambulance was arriving. A quick transfer to get the patient inside the ambulance (the outside air temp. was approximately -8 degrees) and rewarmed, along with other life saving measures, took place. Prior to leaving the scene, the patient had regained a palpable pulse.
While the officers and EMS staff were busy tending to the patient, Sydney Radke and Addie Buck went to the neighbors to get information about the patient and provided this information to the emergency crews.
The scenario this morning contained several very important actions: Early CPR and cardiac defibrillation by an AED.
Hastings Police and Fire/EMS are very proud of the actions taken by Sydney Radke and Addie Buck, as well as the responding officers. They saved a life this morning!
We will be providing a special recognition at an upcoming city council meeting.
